Lori B. Birndorf, D.O.

Dr. Lori Birndorf comes from a medical family. The daughter of an internist, her father was on staff at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank for 30 years, where today she is a member of the department of surgery. Originally from Chicago, Dr. Birndorf and her family moved out to southern California when she was still very young. She received her undergraduate degree from Pomona College in Claremont, CA, and then attended medical school in East Lansing at Michigan State University. She then completed an internship in general medicine in Detroit, Michigan followed by an additional internship specializing in ophthalmology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. Subsequently she returned to Michigan State University for another 3 years to complete her residency in ophthalmology.

Since her days in training, research has been a strong interest for Dr. Birndorf. While in medical school, she was awarded a Fight for Sight Fellowship (one of only 15 awarded to medical students nationwide) for her research in neuro-ophthalmology and optic nerve disease. As a resident, she secured grants and completed research projects at several universities such as USC, Michigan State University, and the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. As a senior resident, she was granted an award by Michigan State University for outstanding achievement in research.

Dr. Birndorf has been in practice in the Los Angeles area for 18 years as a comprehensive ophthalmologist, and is very popular with her patients. She has had a great deal of experience in treating people with a variety of eye diseases, particularly glaucoma and diabetes. She is board certified, a Diplomate of the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
